Banner Artwork
When I first started working on the HPC, it had no content other than the chapter-by-chapter pages. So as the site’s readers followed the books along with me, I periodically changed the banner image to reflect where we were. I loved the feel this gave the site, as the banner tended to reflect the mood of the pages visitors were reading at any given time (and I wish I could replicate that now!). Now that the chapter-by-chapter guides are finished, the images rotate instead, but below you’ll find a bit more information on the drawings, their artists, and when these first appeared on the site.
February 8-22, 2009

The site debuted with only the first five chapters of Philosopher’s Stone. There were no drawings from those chapters that fit the header (the shape is a tough one), so I elected to use one of my favorite drawings – and one that I think reflects the name of the site – instead. It was drawn by Laurence Peguy, and as you can probably guess, made another appearance later on.

Wow, I didn’t know there were so many more banners before I was introduced to this site! I like!

Woah, first commenter…. that never happens… Cool!

I never knew how unique each of the banners were, the detail for example in “Hogwarts” by Snapesforte is amazing, and I love “To Freedom” from reallycorking because it really captures the scene of the escape from the Dursley’s. “The Property of the Half-Blood Prince” has a very dark edge to it, which goes along with the plot of the book very well!

I had not noticed until now that the headers had been changing (blind as a bat, me) but I did seem to notice that they had always been relevant – now I know why! You have chosen them well as they certainly fit the timeline and storyline of the books. Great work.

Thanks for making this an official page with screencaps and everything! I missed some of the old banners; thanks for doing such great work on this site!

Thanks for this. I had missed a few of the first ones, and anyway it’s nice to be able to see them all in a row like that.

I seem to remember a banner of the “secret” meeting of the students interested in forming a Defense Against the Dark Art club at the Hogs Head. It is not listed above & is one of my favorite banners.

Wasn’t there a banner of Dumbledore’s Army at one point? It is one of my favorites!!!!

Very cool to see! But isn’t one of them missing? A black-and-white one, with a lot of people on it? (I really don’t remember it more exactly). I think it was Dumbledore’s Army-members… Anyway. Love the idea :)

Yes, that’s true: the banner with Dumbledore’s Army from Jeni Malament is missing…

So it is – my apologies! It looks like I forgot to nab a screencap of that one. I’ll see if I can pull something together.

There we go, I’ve added it in. I couldn’t remember exactly how I cropped it, and there’s no way to look, so this is my best approximation. But at least it’s there now. :)

Man, it feels good to have been here since the first banner :)

Another thought: I just noticed the titles of the artwork used and I love the creativity and symbolism used by the artists!
And I’m impressed, empirexstate, that you’ve been following this site for so long! I only showed up during the third banner. :)

I had no idea how many banners there were! As much as I love looking at the banners in these pictures, I love watching the layout of the site change more! Its amazing watching the site as it takes its own form :)
