The Beginning
chapter thirty-seven of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
The year winds down as Harry begins dealing with all that’s happened. He talks with Ron, Hermione, and Hagrid; listens as Dumbledore remembers Cedric; bids farewell to Fleur and Krum; learns that Hermione has trapped Rita Skeeter (an unregistered Animagus); curses Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle when they threaten him; and gives his Triwizard winnings to Fred and George before heading back with the Dursleys.
“Knew he was goin’ ter come back,” said Hagrid, and Harry, Ron, and Hermione looked up at him shocked.

Krum… held out his hand as Fleur had done, shook Harry’s hand, and then Ron’s. Ron looked as though he was suffering some sort of painful internal struggle. Krum had already started walking away when Ron burst out, “Can I have your autograph?”

Harry… turned to Uncle Vernon, and followed him silently from the station. There was no point worrying yet, he told himself, as he got into the back of the Dursleys’ car. As Hagrid had said, what would come, would come… and he would have to meet it when it did.

The Boy Who Lived
Goblet of Fire is the midpoint of the Harry Potter series, and it many ways it is a turning point for the wizarding world – and for Harry as well. As he is growing up, so too are the threats he faces: in his first three years at Hogwarts (as well as most of his fourth), he was each time threatened by a single person; now it is clear that an entire organization of Death Eaters will be searching for him. And thanks to his experiences battling Voldemort and the magic he’s learned along the way, Harry truly is becoming ready to face his challenge head-on.
And though this change in Harry will take time, it’s already becoming apparent; even Draco Malfoy, looking “more arrogant and menacing than Harry had ever seen,” wasn’t ready for it, and he ended up on the floor with tentacles sprouting from his face. Harry may only be fourteen, but he’s ready to take on the world – and it’s quickly becoming apparent that he just might have to.

Thanks kim! I’m working on an essay for this one but it hasn’t written itself as easily as some of my others have, so I’m not sure when I’ll get it done and ready to post. Hopefully soon!

kim: I’ve seen the picture you mentioned but I’m also drawing a blank on the artist’s name.
John K: GoF and OotP are my second favorite book in the series (only beat out by PoA) so the last few months of reading, re-reading, seeing (most of) this art again and reading your commentary has been a extra-special treat. I can’t wait for Book 5!

As usual, all the little stories that were taking place during this book, come to a conclusion and everything makes sense. Yet there is so much JRK isn’t telling. It’s brilliant.
Dumbledore says that “Cedric was a person who exemplified many of the qualities which distinguish Hufflepuff house.” That’s great of JRK to put in, since many people seem to think that Hufflepuff just gets the rest, all those that aren’t sorted into the other houses.
Something to Remember: The carriages taking the students back to the train are still pulled by invisible horses. I’m looking forward to your thoughts on this when commenting on book 5.
